Vortragstitel: Strategy and Evidence

Abstract: To guide an organization into a new culture, it is essential to have a framework that directs the journey. Defining our Professional Practice Model (PPMN) has been crucial for our organization, enabling us to articulate the nursing practice we develop. The components of the care environment outlined in this NPPM have been clearly defined, allowing us to explore ways to implement these components and measure their effectiveness.
Once the culture of your organization is established and your staff understands what each component means and how it manifests in practice, the Magnet framework can help elevate the organization to high standards of care. This framework facilitates discussions about evidence of improvements in practice, innovations, and research initiatives. This presentation aims to provide a brief overview of this transformative journey.

Kurzbiografie: Carmen Rumeu-Casares has served as the Chief Nurse Executive at the Board of Directors at Clinica Universidad de Navarra since 2008. She is a specialist in Nursing Mental Health, certified by the Spanish Ministry of Health. Carmen earned her Master’s degree from the Nursing Faculty at Manchester Victoria University in 1996 and is currently pursuing her PhD on the topic of Patient Experience at the Faculty of Nursing at Universidad de Navarra.

In addition to her executive role, Carmen is actively involved in teaching postgraduate students about leadership and has a long history of education at the Faculty of Nursing at Universidad de Navarra. She has focused her training on Nursing Management and Health Politics at Manchester Business School and has participated in Executive Education programs at IESE Business School (University of Navarra) and the Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania) through the Executive Nurse Directors program.
Since 2008, Carmen has collaborated with her nursing leadership team to define a Nursing Professional Practice Model (NPPM), which was officially published in a national Spanish nursing management journal in 2019. This model has been instrumental in shaping the development of professional nursing within an environment that supports various nursing roles and promotes clinical excellence throughout the continuum of patient care.

In her role, Carmen facilitated the introduction of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role at Clinica Universidad de Navarra in 2010. This role emphasizes the development of nursing practice through research, evidence-based practice, and the autonomy of practice, fostering a culture of performance improvement guided by clinical results. She has advocated for resources that support the establishment of clinical indicators to drive improvement projects focused on outcomes, thereby enabling her team to maintain clinical excellence. She has also established the Patient Experience Area at her hospital, where she serves as the director. In this role, she focuses on elevating patients‘ voices within the hospital as part of a strategic initiative set by the hospital’s Board for completion by the year 2024.

Carmen has also attended several leadership seminars in the USA, focusing on the impact of new roles in healthcare. Since 2014, she has regularly attended the ANCC Magnet Conference to familiarize herself with the Magnet accreditation process. She and her team have been preparing the organizational culture of Clinica Universidad de Navarra to pursue Magnet accreditation by early 2025. In 2019, she was appointed as a member of the Alpha Chi Sigma Theta Tau Chapter by Dr. Dorothy Jones from Boston College. She is also a member of the first Sigma Theta Tau chapter in Spain at the Faculty of Nursing of Universidad de Navarra Alpha Gamma Alpha Chapter.
